PACPI Housing Partnership
Pediatric AIDS Chicago Prevention Initiative has launched a new supportive housing pilot for ten high-risk HIV-positive pregnant women.
This new partnership is designed to:
- Prevent mother-to-child HIV transmission
- Facilitate permanent housing stability for high-risk families
- Provide significant cost savings to the healthcare system
Additionally, the pilot includes a research component to study the impact of intensive case management (including directly observed therapy) and housing on HIV-positive pregnant women and the healthcare system, with the goal of translating research findings into real policy and program changes to improve care for HIV-positive pregnant women and their children.
There are currently ten clients housed in scattered site housing units through Christian Community Health Center and Housing Opportunities for Women. The clients selected for the program were screened for eligibility with a focus on HIV-positive pregnant and recently delivered homeless women and their family. While the program is very small, we hope to prove its success and find more funding to increase the availability for more housing units.
